Notables:
February 2 2012 Most of the trails have now been groomed except as noted in the individual sections above. Recent snowfall on Monday evening January 30-31 has helped considerably but current above normal temperatures with sun will soon be causing major deterioration as melting occurs. Many trails are still rough and without a good base and CAUTION is still advised on these trails. A short section of the Centerline By-pass trail was relocated back to the original location. It had been moved on January 1, 2010 to accommodate logging operations in the area. The alternate trail while useable was very narrow and somewhat unsafe. All required signage has been posted; the previously used trail is now posted as closed.

Unfortunately, their unit was unable to succeed on this trail either because of the deep snow, the narrow trail nature and the danger from the hydro poles.
IMPROVEMENTS 2009 - 2010 Eastman SnoPALS members are in the process of making much needed trail improvements in several sections of our system. These improvements consist mostly of mechanical brushing to widen trails and make them safer. The main areas of improvements have been on the trail south of Julius to the Springfield Trail, the Railbed Trail and the Centerline Trail in the Agassiz Forest. During January and February brushing improvements were made to the trails going north and south from Whitemouth. There is now sufficient space for two snowmobiles meet and pass safely by each other on these trails. All of the work of hand brushing, signing and grooming is performed by our volunteers. Many of our members are retired individuals that do this work so that you can enjoy our winter wonderland. They have been doing this work for many years and they can not go on forever. Age is taking its toll on our older members as well. We need more help to help make a good trail system. In the attached link is a short video (3MEGS) of some of our volunteers getting the new groomer ready for the coming season. Please consider coming forward to join our club and / or volunteer your time, it will be appreciated. Go to our membership page for more details. |
